Manual handle or motorised, is the Marcato motor attachment worthwhile?
You may remember from one of my recent reviews; that I have a very special affiliation with the
Marcato Atlas 150 Pasta Machine ! I shared how this pasta machine is like a family member to me as I have been manually cranking its handle since I was 5 years old helping my mum roll sheets of pasta. If you missed it, please read
here.
As you can see, my attachment is strong!
So, when I was introduced to the Deluxe Motorised Pasta Machine attachment (this motor has been designed exclusively for use with the Atlas Pasta Machine), I was again a little apprehensive. I felt like I would be betraying my friend, the crank handle – well, we have been through a lot! I was the crank handle champion in my family of origin. However, I had wanted to test this motorised devise to see if it made rolling pasta quicker and easier; and I could justify its usage as the Motoried attachment is made by the same company that make the Marcato Atlas 150 Pasta Machine (with crank handle attachment) - the Marcato family from Italy.
Phew! I’m glad that’s off my chest!
In essence, the Deluxe Motorised Pasta Machine attachment transforms your manual crank pasta machine into a 2 speed electric machine for ease of rolling out your pasta.
I was a little surprised, as I pulled from its new box, that the Deluxe Motorised Pasta Machine attachment is not made from the same stainless steel material as per its mothership - the Atlas pasta machine. It unexpectedly weighed less, perhaps to allow for it to sit steadily attachment to the pasta machine.
Nonetheless, it was extremely simple to fit to my pasta machine (I didn’t even need to look at any instructions), and with a no-fuss operating system (2 speed option only), I was away rolling out pasta within a few seconds.
Subsequently, I was again a little surprised, this time at the speed in which the pasta rolled out. I was expecting a fast torrent of rolled pasta sheet to flood me, however, it was more a trickle! I feel that I would win the race again with my crank handle. Ha! Nevertheless, in saying that, I did find it much easier to manage the long length of rolled pasta with both my hands free. Only once the pasta was safely flat, laying on the table, did I need to switch off the power. This is quite effective as there has been many a time that I have had a long length of pasta stick together (and unable to use it), simply due to not having one hand free to catch and spread it loose!
Additionally, and admittingly, I did find that within 10 minutes of commencement, I had completely rolled out enough sheets of pasta to make 2 medium sized trays of lasagne. That’s efficient by my books!
