Mindful Coffee for One in the Le Creuset French Coffee Press

David Kahn |

Sometimes you just want to make up a nice cup of coffee for yourself. For those moments when no one else is home and you may have an hour – two if you are lucky, you can savour in a luxurious coffee done in the classic French way, just for yourself. This happened to me this week. I have two days at the end of the week with the kids in care and in that time I try and cram all my work in. Ironically, those days can feel the least productive sometimes. I’m not quite sure why that is – perhaps it’s the pressure of feeling I need to get so much done in so little time. On this particular day having had a broken night’s sleep with a teething baby, I then noticed I was staring and straining my eyes at the computer for the good of part of an hour. In that time I had typed out 2 or 3 sentences that barely made any sense. I decided the best thing to do in that situation was to throw in the towel, accept defeat and have a break. This was definitely the best thing I could have done. An hour later – pumped up by my coffee and revitalized by my break time reading in the sun, I came back in and finished my article with no problem whatsoever. Having a coffee break is a nice opportunity to have an experience of mindfulness. This is when you simply stop your erratic thought patterns which may be consumed with worry and anxiety and focus on exactly the here and now. Simply, it’s coming out of your busy mind and into your present body. Here is a fun mindfulness exercise you can do while making and drinking your coffee: Le Creuset's enamelware simply makes me happy. I love the feel of the smooth enamel coating on my coffee cup and and the vibrant ‘Volcanic Orange’ signature colour of my little coffee press. So simple to operate: you add a tablespoon of good quality coffee grounds, then pour in some boiling water. Allow to brew for a couple of minutes then press down on the plunger and pour.
