Where most people stainless steel and non-stick dishes, enamel cast Iron dishes are my favourite to cook with for their fantastic heat retention, evenness when cooking and ease of cleaning.
Le Creuset has been around for over 80 years and have plenty of experience in making enamelled cast iron casseroles AKA French Ovens alongside other pans and dishes. What makes enamelled cast iron dishes so popular is that they provide all the benefits of cast iron cooking whilst keeping it super easy to clean and store. Raw cast iron by comparison requires occasional seasoning to maintain cooking performance and prevent rusting.
Looking at the
Le Creuset Tart Tatin dish in Cerise red for the first time, one can see very quickly how Le Creuset has become so popular for their cookware. The interior vitreous enamel is smooth and glass like, while the exterior is bright and exciting. The 25cm diameter is a great size for almost anything and the wide integrated handles make it simple for transferring oven to stove to table, even with oven mitts on! What's also great is that this dish comes in a variety of colours to suit any style and spice up any kitchen!
As I mentioned, this dish has superior heat retention and is ideal for the following heat sources:
- Ceramic
- Induction
- Electric
- Gas
- Radiant ring
- Oven
The signature porcelain enamel-glaze allows you to cook and serve with it, and not worrying about chips, scratches or stains.
It's also perfect for sauteing!
I made a one pot wonder frittata dish by tenderising the vegetables on the hob before pouring in the egg mixture and transferring to the oven to bake.
The versatility of this dish proves to be all you need when cooking. Making the frittata was so easy, quick and clean. There were no extra pots and pans used (which meant no extra cleaning) and with the unique enamel finish, it presented beautifully with no effort.
Before and After... Perfectly even cooking throughout
You can’t go wrong with the Signature enamelled cast iron range by Le Creuset, not only for cooking performance but for style and durability. While they are rather pricey cookware pieces, they are designed to last and are backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
