Brabantia Bread Maker Review

Jillian Leiboff |

What is the Brabantia Bread Maker's best features?

Every time I visit my Dad we make pizzas together. I normally make pizza dough by hand but in Brisbane, we always make the pizza dough in my Dad’s bread maker. I don’t own one so I was keen to try out the new Brabantia bread maker. My Dad’s bread maker is quite old and heavy and it also takes up a lot of bench space. When I took the Brabantia bread maker out of the box, I was so surprised by its size.

  • The machine has 15-19 digital functions including mix and stir options and even has jam and yoghurt settings! The fact that it has so many functions means it will get a lot more useful than a conventional bread maker
  • The bread pan is made of non-stick aluminium alloy and it’s quite easy to insert and really easy to clean. The machine comes with an aluminium mixing blade, a measuring cup and spoons and a hook to remove the mixing blade from the loaf.
  • I’m a bit of a measuring fiend so I checked the cup and spoon volumes and discovered the measuring cups and spoons are not Australian standard size! The cup provided is a 240 ml cup. The tablespoon is a 15 ml spoon and the teaspoon is only 3mls rather than the standard 5mls.
  • The Brabantia bread maker is also sleek and stylish as well as light enough to move around easily.

11 of the settings are for bread baked in the machine and the manual doesn’t really give you recipes as such, just ingredients and quantities. I made an old fashioned sandwich loaf using the ‘basic’ setting and it turned out beautifully.

For these zucchini chilli cheese buns, I just wanted to make dough but due to the lack of detail in the manual, I wasn’t sure which setting to use. In the end, I used the pizza dough setting because I wanted the dough to slowly rise overnight in the fridge. I’ve made a few more things since these buns and I think I could also have used the leavened dough setting. There's also a ’mix and stir’ function yet which I think mixes dough without proving it or could be used to make pasta dough.

I've also tested the bread maker to make some delicious Fitzrovia buns and it turned out splendid! See the recipe below for more details!
