What is it about the Le Creuset French Oven that everyone loves?
There is something familiar/comforting about cast iron cookware! Just the sight of one sitting idle (and empty) on a stove top, makes me feel cosy and all warm inside. Perhaps it is knowing what wonderful hearty dishes I have eaten from them or can prepare in them!
I have a few cast iron French Ovens, but none of them from the
Le Creuset Signature range and under 28cm in size. Insert the new version of French Ovens; Le Creuset Signature Round French Oven in Cool Mint Colour and a smaller size of 24cm - to hopefully prevent over cooking and eating! Ha!
To begin with, I like to mention how versatile these French Oven Casserole pots are; perfect for stewing, roasting, searing, braising, and to add to this cooking repertoire – baking of bread. I recently began employing my new Le Creuset to bake my sourdough bread. The cast iron cookware with lid acts as an intense hot steam oven to aid in a crusty bread.
The self-basting lid creates the perfect seal that encloses flavours and aromas when cooking, while retaining moisture and the nutritional value of the foods being cooked.
The first meal I assessed the
Le Creuset with was one of my favourite midweek
Coconut Curried Chicken! If there was one supper that could really give this French oven a run for its money – it is this curry fare! I have made it a zillion times – so I have an expectation!
Consequently,
Le Creuset performed extremely well.
This meal was complete in record time (20 minutes) and there was a more concentrated flavour that was never quite there before; perhaps a result achieved from the improved tougher enamel coating that is credited for being more durable.
I found the handles and knobs most useful and easy to lift out of the oven. I noted that Le Creuset have increased their handles to a larger 45% size. This is innovative as it really was very easy to lift and carry from oven to table with my chunky kitchen gloves.
If you want a life long friend in the kitchen (Insert here: Le Creuset have lifetime warranty too!) that will stand by you through thick and thin (curries and soups) then invest in one of these French Ovens from Le Creuset.
