Product Guide: Marcato Biscuit Press
David Kahn |
Born in Italy, Marcato brings you its quality and design in the form of a biscuit machine!
Machine might not be the word that comes to mind when you first see this, but the moment you start using it, you’ll gain a new understanding of the word.
This biscuit machine is designed for making homemade biscuits and cookies in the quickest, most efficient way whilst wowing everyone with the different shapes and sizes of the crazy number of cookies you will make.
The machine’s ergonomic shape, made with food-grade anodised aluminium makes sure any cookie dough put through remains safe and toxin free, while also not affecting the flavour. The external housing is coloured using oxidation colouring so no residue is released onto the dough.
Marcato is an internationally well known and trusted brand with products designed, engineered and manufactured in Italy, so my expectations were big when I received the biscuit machine. It came with the biscuit press, 20 biscuit die plates and a plastic handle extender to make it easier when pressing thick dough.
I prepared one of my favourite cookie dough to make my marbled gingerbread cookies. Usually it would take me a long time to make cookies but I didn’t need anything except the biscuit machine – no rolling pin, no cookie cutters, not even baking sheet.
All I had to do was place my dough into the machine, choose one of the many dies to create the different biscuit shapes and get pressing!
It was simple to use, and changing the die in between cookies was so easy I used almost all of them with zero effort. I could even adjust the size whenever I wanted to by turning the knob (#1 small, #2 large).
When I was done, I had too many cookies to count – there was no rolling and re rolling to make the cookies and no left over dough either. With the simple lever and dies, it felt like no effort went into making them yet I made over a dozen different shaped cookies, with perfect shaped results that could be mistaken with those from a commercial bakery.
True to its name it really does produce biscuits like a machine, delivering results greater than what I expected. Only trouble is with how fun and easy it is to use, I'm going to be making cookies at any spare moment!
I used the Marcato Biscuit Press in Red which can be found here. The presses are also available in blue, black, silver and copper.
