The Versatility of a Quality Japanese Santoku knife
Summer may officially be over here in Australia, but with midday temperatures still hitting the late 20’s in Brisbane, it’s the equivalent of a heatwave in my hometown of Ireland. Meaning the beach bod is still happening, and salads are still in full effect!
Typically when I make a salad like this, I whip out my mandoline for precision cuts, but with the new addition of the knife roll, the mandoline is starting to collect a little dust. My knife roll consists of many knives, but there are probably only 4 that I use regularly. That number is decreasing a little with the addition of my new Miyabi Birchwood 5000MCD Santoku 18cm.
Benefits of this knife
It’s perfect for chopping, mincing, and dicing fruit and vegetables. Razor-sharp means I can get precision cuts every time. Made from micro carbide powder steel and surrounded by 100 layers of 2 different types of steel with a stunning birchwood handle, this knife is not only fantastic from a chef and home cooks perspective: it’s pretty damn sexy too.
When working on your feet all day and wielding a knife for the best part of it, you need to ensure you have quality on or in both hands and feet. The ergonomic design and balanced weight of the knife leaves you with as much comfort as possible when doing your mise en place. The knife is sturdy enough to help push through all vegetables without feeling like you are holding a sword. A lifetime guarantee only screams out the confidence Miyabi has in their knives, so you know when purchasing one, you will feel confident enough to apply to Masterchef too.
People are often afraid of very sharp knives, and one thing the Japanese and Miyabi excel in with their traditional and authentic honbazuke V edge honing is supplying you with that. The truth is, blunt knives are where most accidents happen in kitchens. The knife is hand wash only – like all good knives, so don’t think about popping it in the dishwasher.
If you are looking to upgrade your knives for either commercial or home use, I can recommend the selection that Everten stock or the quality behind Miyabi knives.
