What is the most versatile pot or pan?

We are often asked by customers what is the most versatile cookware item and whether it is a pot or pan. There are many pieces of cookware which are very versatile and can be used for multiple purposes. However, there is nothing in our opinion at Everten, as versatile as the Shallow Casserole Dish from Le Creuset.

Why is the Le Creuset Shallow Casserole Dish so versatile?

This family sized casserole dish is made in France from raw cast iron and finished off with the best quality enamel coating on the market, Making it excellent at heat conductivity and is stick resistant to ensure your food doesn’t stick to the base which can cause multiple problems. We have listed some of the many ways you can use this French Oven to explain just how versatile this casserole dish really is.

Stove Top Cooking

Being made from cast iron, this shallow casserole is suitable for all stovetop heat sources including gas, ceramic and induction. On the stove top with the lid aside, this pan is perfect for sautéing and pan-frying. By placing the lid on top, this pan becomes the perfect cookware piece for stovetop braising and slow cooking. Whether you are pan-frying chicken breast or sautéing vegetables for your family dinner, the results achieved in this pan are hard to rival.

Oven Cooking

The low profile of the shallow casserole allows it to perfectly fit into small ovens allowing you to bake more than one dish at a time when entertaining guests. Additionally, with the lid included, this dish becomes the ultimate braiser and slow cooker. The innovative self-basting rings displayed the lid will ensure the curry or casserole that started on the stove top remains moist and succulent when cooked in the oven. Cook the perfect lamb roast or bake warm, crumbly cookies when you cook the Shallow Casserole Dish in the oven without the lid. There are so many choices such as baking homemade, fresh round loaves of bread and berry crumbles to roasted root vegetables, this pan will ensure evenly cooked and perfect results every time.

One-Pan Preparation

Outside of the pan's performance, one of the best things about the shallow casserole is that you can easily make a one-pan meal which means less washing up. When cooking lamb shanks, you are able to sear your shanks on the stovetop and then once the sauce has been heated to the correct temperature, simply cover the pan and move to the oven for the perfect result. We know what you’re thinking, why haven’t I already got one of these already? Well lastly, Le Creuset has been specifically designed to move your dish from stove to oven to table so once you have cooked you lamb shanks, place on the dining table for serving. Which comes to our final reason, table presentation.

Table Presentation

The beauty of cast iron cookware and especially the Le Creuset Casseroles is that they are designed to present your cooked dish beautifully on the table ready for serving, just as the French do it. As we all know presentation is a big part of entertaining, the range of colours and styles Le Creuset has to offer means you can mix and match or coordinate your table to complement your dish.
