My son has started school! Like any parent of a new school student, I really want him to fit in and have all the cutest things of course. Yet obviously, I want the most functional and practical gear that actually works well and won’t fall apart after a few uses. (If I buy one more leaky water bottle I will lose it!) Having never packed lunches before, I have been feeling a little anxious and daunted about this important daily task ahead of me for the coming years.
After the school orientation morning, the bell rang and all the “big kids” started coming out of their classrooms for lunch. I noticed so many other kids had these particular lunch bags from Avanti – they’ve obviously been a very popular choice with kids and parents this year. That at least eased some of my nerves for Oscar’s transition to big school and left me feeling less daunted (dare I say a little excited?) to start packing his lunches every day.
The Lunch Cooler Bag is a classic, old school lunch bag shape. It really is hard to tell from photos but the first thing that struck me about the bag is how sturdy it felt. The material is made from a thick and tough waterproof canvas. I like the easy carry strap on top, which also has a clip to fasten to the bottom of school bags, bikes, lockers, or onto virtually anything.
Each bag comes with a thin ice block that keeps food cool for up to 10 hours when placed in the bottom. I found that the ice pack is lightweight as well, which is very helpful for a Kindergartener. The bag closes tight with Velcro which also keeps the cool air trapped in.
The Double Decker Lunch Bag comes in super cute prints for both boys and girls including skulls, cars, owls and unicorns. This bag actually holds a lot, yet is still I would say, medium in size, and also very lightweight as made from a lighter canvas material than the cooler bag. (More things that are hard to tell from photos… I was concerned it would be massive).
This bag helps keep food and snacks neat and tidy with the separate areas. I tend to put items for “crunch and sip” and a snack for afternoon play in the upper compartment, and lunch in the bottom. This aspect definitely appeals to the control freak in me!
Which bag is best for my child?
