Cheat's Sausage Roll Recipe

These sausage rolls taste amazing and look like you’ve slaved for hours making them. The truth is they require only 4 ingredients and could not be easier. Perfect for weekend breakfasts, kids lunch boxes or cut into smaller rolls for party nibbles.

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 40 minutes | Serves about 6-8 large sized rolls or 24 party bite-sized rolls.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 thick, good quality sausages of choice
  • 1 package ready to roll puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp fennel seeds

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 180C (350F) and line a large baking tray with baking paper. 2. On a large cutting board, lay out the sheet of puff pastry horizontally. Prepare a bowl with the egg and 1 Tbsp of water. Beat lightly with a fork and set aside.

Cut Through Skins - Recipe

3. Using a serrated knife, remove the skins from the sausages, but leaving them intact in a sausage shape. Place the sausage meat on the left-hand side of the pastry and then roll the pastry tightly around the sausage. Using a pastry brush, add some egg wash to the seam, then roll the pastry over a little more to close. Trim with a knife.
