6 Delicious Christmas Brunch Ideas

No matter what happens from January until December 24th, Christmas morning is the perfect time to make great memories with your family. And it all begins with a delicious brunch. In fact, it’s probably the only thing that’s going to drag everyone away from their gifts.

So, to help you become a Christmas hero, here are our six favourite bunch ideas for that most special of occasions.

Crepes

If you’ve got a few picky eaters in your family (and really, who doesn’t) you can’t do much better for flexibility than the classic brunch crepes. One aunt wants something savoury? No problem. Cousins want something sweet? Easy.

Just start off with a basic crepe recipe, make sure you’ve got a great crepe pan, and then create a bar with all the fillings everyone loves. From mangos, strawberries and chocolate spread to smoked meats and cheese, everyone can find something they love. Though if you’re worried, you can always try taking suggestions from everyone beforehand so the whole family’s happy.

Prawn Tapas

We all love our prawns on Christmas day, so why wait? If you’re looking for something light and flexible enough for brunch but still packing some serious flavour, why not go for Spanish style garlic prawns? You can serve them over rice, with tortillas, with eggs, really however you like.

Then, just to mix things up a bit, combine this with some other tapas classics like smoked paprika almonds or tortilla Espanola for an even wider range of easy brunch recipes to delight your entire family.

Cinnamon Buns

There’s nothing quite like Cinnamon buns on a Sunday morning. I grew up with these warm, gooey treats marking some of my favourite family memories. So why not treat your family? This is a surprisingly easy Christmas recipe. There are just seven ingredients and an hour and a half of prep (which you can do ahead of time). Then just finish off the prep and pop them in the oven on Christmas morning.

You won’t even have to worry about trying to get the family out of bed, I guarantee the smell of baking cinnamon buns will take care of that just fine. It always worked for me.

Shakshuka

A personal favourite and something that has rapidly caught on in cafes across Australia, you can’t really go wrong with Shakshuka, whether it’s for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. If you’re not familiar (in which case, where have you been?) this Israeli dish combined incredibly flavourful ingredients like cumin, coriander, chilli, tomatoes, and runny eggs into a dish with just the right balance of sweet and spicy.

Best of all, the recipe only takes about 10 minutes of prep time, so you won’t have to spend too much time away from your new favourite gadget.

Fried Eggs with a Lebanese Twist

Interested in an easy brunch recipe masquerading as something you’d find at a fancy restaurant? Look no further. To make this dukkah and feta fried eggs recipe, you just need a few key ingredients and the right pan to fry a beautiful egg.

All you need to do is fry your eggs, cook your bread briefly, then add the dukkah, fresh mint, lemon rind, and feta cheese. Your cousins will definitely be Instagramming this.

Apricot, Cranberry and Pistachio Quinoa Porridge

In case it wasn’t already clear, this is not your grandmother’s porridge. Best of all, it’s a healthy recipe crammed with fibre and protein to get you through a long day of opening presents and listening to your uncle tell stories.

You start with delicious, nutty quinoa, then add cranberries, apricots, crushed pistachios, milk and honey (for a biblical twist), and you’re ready to go. Try telling your family that you’re having porridge for breakfast and then serve them this. You probably haven’t seen frowns turn into smiles that quickly since you told your nephew Christmas wasn’t actually cancelled.
