30-Minute Sticky Chilli Chicken with Toasted Sesame Seeds and Spring Onions

David Kahn |

Satisfy takeaway cravings in under 30 minutes!

Craving for the weekly stir-fried takeouts you've enjoyed during pre-ISO days? This stir-fried Sticky Chilli Chicken is our favourite dish to satisfy those cravings. It's easy to make as it only requires ingredients that are usually available in your refrigerator and pantry. Best of all, this dish only requires 30 minutes to prepare and cook so there's little to no waiting time to enjoy it for dinner!

Most stir-frys take heaps of oil to attain perfect cooking results and this dish is not an exception. But with the Le Creuset Toughened Non-Stick Wok, we were able to reduce our use of oil thanks to its non-stick surface. This range from Le Creuset features a reinforced 3-layer non-stick surface for extra resistance against metal utensils and everyday cooking. Thanks to that, cooking healthy stir-frys for the family at home has never been easier!

Ingredients:

  • 600g chicken breast, cut widthways into 1cm thick strips, then lengthways into two strips
  • 1 level teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 2-3 tablespoons of rose harissa
  • 4 tablespoons of clear honey (or more if desired)
  • 4 whole spring onions, thinly sliced including green part
  • 15g fresh coriander, roughly chopped
  • 2 teaspoons of sesame seeds, lightly dry-toasted in a pan
  • 1 teaspoon of Nigella seeds
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Coat the wok's interior generously with vegetable oil and heat on low to medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken strips and stir-fry quickly until the edges are browned. Remove and drain excess oil from the chicken on a plate lined with two sheets of kitchen roll. You don't want to fully cook the chicken at this point as you'll be cooking it with the glaze shortly.
  2. Empty the wok of any remaining oil and add the chicken back in along with harissa, cinnamon, honey, and a generous amount of salt and pepper. Stir-fry well until the chicken is evenly coated in the mixture. Add more honey, harissa, and seasoning until you reach your desired taste.
  3. Scatter some sesame and Nigella seeds and garnish with coriander and spring onions. Serve and enjoy!

Extra Notes:

Not in the mood for chicken? You can simply substitute it for pork, prawns, or even tofu!
