Urban Greens, Groovy Greens Grow Kits

David Kahn |

The Urban Greens Grow Kits makes it easy to have an organic growing experience right at home even if you live in the city with no access to a garden. Several different kits to choose from make it fun and easy to grow plants, flowers, herbs and vegetables. I decided I wanted to get my kids involved with growing the greens right from the start. We chose a sunny winter weekend morning to head outside in our pyjamas and get started- opening the packaging felt a little bit like Christmas! I found the Groovy Greens Grow Kit very easy to follow- in fact, I didn’t even need to look at the instructions. The kit comes with 5 seed packets, 5 peat pots with 5 fertiliser discs and 5 labels. Inside are seeds for Rocket, Brussel sprouts, Swiss Chard, Pak Choy, and Kale. The kids carefully placed the fertiliser disks into each pot and loved opening the packets, pouring the seeds in and watering them. There is no real mess to worry about, as there is no dirt required in the first steps. Everything you need is within the kits. Once the little seedlings were bursting out of their peat pots (about a week), we chose a nice plant pot, got some dirt and made a feature of it on our patio table. It was so fun and easy to plant the greens
Once sprouted we placed them into our garden pot outside our kitchen
Inside the kit is a recipe booklet with easy recipes to use up our greens. Now we wait with bated breath until they grow big enough to pick! Every day the boys want to check for any growth. This experience has led to many discussions and endless questions about how plants grow, what they need to grow, and are they human? Do plants have feelings? Will it hurt them when we pick them? I only hope involving them from the very start in this intro to gardening will spark a great interest in eating their greens. Now, that would be fantastic. The Urban Greens range is a new line of products by the makers of RetroKitchen. There are a variety of different kits for use at home, from a hot and spicy kit to grow chillies and more, to culinary flowers and even one for growing the herbs for cocktails with their mixologist kit for growing mint, strawberries lemon balm and more!
