1. Scanpan HaptIQ
The Scanpan Haptiq Cookware range was launched in the second half of 2019 and is considered the Danish company's most prestigious in its lineup of cookware. Featuring their enhanced non-stick known as Statanium and made in Denmark, this line of cookware has a commercial-grade non-stick that Scanpan purposely developed alongside professional chefs to ensure a balance of durability and cooking performance. So what exactly is Stratanium anyway? It's the culmination of over 10 years of development where Scanpan improved their non-stick by 30% through a process in adding more layers and combining it with small and large particles to give a more durable cooking surface. It essentially will be replacing Greentec as the future of all Scanpan non-stick cookware moving forward. Features of Stratanium are:
Highly durable - metal utensil safe
Oven safe up to 260°C
Even heat distribution for even cooking and no heat spots
PFOA and PFOS free
With a stunning polished stainless steel exterior and handles, with a 5-layer clad aluminium construction for heat conductivity, Scanpan's HaptIQ line of cookware really presents itself as high-end and adds a classy touch to the kitchen. Suitable for all cooktops including induction
2. Woll Diamond Lite
Made in Germany, Woll Diamond Lite is definitely a range of cookware that you should consider if you are after a long-lasting nonstick, like to sear foods before oven baking or have relatively little storage space. This range of cookware actually has a nonstick surface which is made with actual diamond crystals! You are probably thinking "must be marketing spin" but there is actually reasons for this material choice:
Diamonds are hardwearing so it contributes to the durability of the nonstick
They have fantastic heat conductivity
Extreme heat tolerance
Creates a more natural nonstick
This makes this range of cookware incredibly durable with a maximum heat tolerance of 250°C and suitable for use with metal utensils.
Why we also love this cookware by Woll is that the handles of the Diamond Lite range come off which makes them great for oven use and for easier storage! Simply remove the handles and you can stack and fit them in much more cramped cupboards.
3. Woll Diamond Lite Pro
Similar to the Woll Diamond Lite, the Woll Diamond Lite nonstick cookware range sets the bar on quality and durable nonstick cookware. What makes this range different from the regular Diamond Lite range is that it features solid stainless steel handles and unlike other nonstick cookware that have rivets which are visible on the cookware surface and can easily build up grime (and bacteria!), these are embedded into the exterior seamlessly. NB: The Diamond Lite Pro is the top of the range for Woll but it is important to note that some users find this range to be rather heavy, especially compared to the standard Diamond Lite range. Features: All Woll Diamond Lite nonstick pans feature 5-layers to their composition illustrated below:
4. Scanpan TechnIQ
Alongside the launch of the HaptIQ line comes Scanpan Techniq. This cookware range combines Scanpan's Stratanium+ enhanced nonstick into a range that is more pragmatic and targeted to appeal to professional chefs and enthusiasts alike. Unlike HaptIQ's polished stainless steel exteriors, the nonstick envelopes onto the exterior for easy cleaning. This a more concise range, where there's fewer pans and sizes, while featuring deeper edges for large capacities, specific to commercial cooking environments where there's a need to cook more volumes of ingredients at once. Our favourite pan in this range is the TechnIQ Bistro which is nice and deep with a generous 3.7L capacity, perfect for making larger quantities of dishes or for simply whipping up sauces with enough space to mix through other ingredients like pasta to finish.
5. Essteele Per Domani
Designed and made in Italy, the Essteele Per Domani is one of the tougher-wearing cookware lines by the affordable Essteele cookware brand while competing with the more expensive European brands. The Per Domani diamond reinforced nonstick is similar to Swiss Diamond's coatings and offers similar durability and greater heat conductivity. What we love about this range is that it has Titanium layers which reduce the overall weight compared to other nonstick brands without compromising on durability. The Per Domani range is also suitable for induction which is another strong selling point, especially as induction cookware tends to be on the pricier side. While the plastic handles don't have the same feel and quality of the other options that feature stainless steel handles in this list, it makes up for it in terms of nonstick cooking performance. We find the Essteeele Per Domani is a great option for those wanting durable nonstick cookware while still on a budget.
6. De Buyer Choc Extreme
France has a reputation for producing and training some of the best chefs in the world, so when it comes to cookware we can expect no different. De buyer cookware is one of the world's most used commercial grade cookware brands, loved by professional chefs globally. Made in France, they've answered the call to extend their ranges outside of their coveted carbon steel pans which require seasoning, to high-quality non-stick lines to satisfy the home chef and enthusiasts alike. Induction compatible and with a 5-layered hard-wearing nonstick that has a chocolate-like appearance (hence the name Choc), this range of French-made cookware is certainly built to last with a high heat threshold and scratch resistance.
7. Swiss Diamond Prestige Clad XD
As the name would suggest, the Swiss Diamond Prestige Clad XD line of cookware is manufactured in Switzerland and is also rated to be one of the hardest wearing non-stick cookware range on the market. What makes Swiss Diamond's nonstick coating so durable is (with the name hinting again) the diamond crystal reinforcement that ensures maximum heat conductivity, resistance to higher cooking temperatures (260°C) and abrasion from metal cooking utensils. This line features an extra 20% concentration of these diamond crystals over the previous generations of Swiss Diamond cookware to further their durability, highly dense aluminium bodies that is enveloped in thick, polished stainless steel for optimal heat dispersion with an attractive, prestigious finish.
Some things to consider when purchasing nonstick cookware
Now that we've listed what we believe to be the best nonstick cookware lines available in the Australian market, it is important that you also choose the best sets according to your needs. What is important when making your decision is knowing:
The type of stovetop you use. If you have an induction stovetop, it is important that you check that the cookware is induction compatible
The size of the cookware you need. If you have a large family or entertain often, we recommend purchasing cookware that has larger capacities so that you can make enough portions. Even if you live alone, If you follow meal plans or like to prepare meals in advance for the week ahead, it also pays to have larger-sized cookware
Whether they are metal utensil safe, we will always recommend using silicone, nylon or wooden kitchen utensils to ensure the longevity of your nonstick pans, if they are classed as metal utensil safe, it's a sure sign that they are going to be harder wearing than others.
Using the right cooking oil will preserve your nonstick for longer. We recommend always high smoke point oils as this will reduce occurrence of the greasy, tar-like residue buildup on the pan that lower smoke point oils bring when cooking and negatively affect the performance of the nonstick over time.
Whichever range of nonstick cookware you choose from the above, we are sure you will love using them and will truly appreciate the cooking results that come with quality pans for years to come.
