Comparing the best Scanpan roasters for fuss-free cooking

A sturdy, large roasting pan is an essential in every kitchen. But what exactly makes for a great roaster, and what should you be looking for? Looking online, there are so many options to choose from and so many variables in costs. But what is it that you actually pay for?

In this article, I analyse the differences between Scanpan's roasters to see if the price rise is worth it for the premium models, or if perhaps the classic, basic roasting pan is all you need for fuss-free cooking.

Scanpan Classic Stainless Steel Roasters

  • Scanpan Impact Roaster is made with stainless steel and features a thick, durable base, which will never buckle in extreme temperatures or from hard usage. It is also highly compatible with all stovetops, with the Scanpan Impact induction range being induction compatible.

  • Scanpan Coppernox Roaster combines hard-wearing copper and mirrored stainless steel to create a durable roaster with a beautiful finish. This is a beautiful roaster with deep sides that hold a lot of volume. The base is infused with copper to ensure even and fast heat retention.
Cost at time of article: Ranging from $76.00 to 148.95

Pros: Comes with a roasting rack, features a drip-free pouring rim, capacity markings on the internal surface, and is the best value purchase.

Cons: Only oven safe to 200°C, hand wash recommended, less easy to clean than non-stick.

Scanpan Non-Stick Roasters

  • Scanpan Classic Roast Pans are available in several different sizes and feature the classic non-stick, hard-wearing surface. Again, the deep sides make Scanpan's roasters a winner for versatility in the kitchen. Less mess is created by reducing splatters during the cooking process.
Cost at time of article: $119 - 163

Pros: Less oil required, low to medium heat required, easy to clean, holds large volume, ovenproof to 260°C.

Cons: May not be able to withstand extremely high heat.

Scanpan's Top of the line Roaster:

  • Scanpan TechnIQ The Square Roaster high performing, non-stick technology with Scanpan's patented STRATANIUM+ surface makes for many uses in one pan; sear, saute, deglaze, reduce, and roast. This means you can sear a joint of meat in the same pan it will be braised or roasted in. Any utensils may be used without worry, making it ideal to deglaze pan juices and whisk a sauce. The thick base ensures fast heat distribution and even heat retention.
Cost at time of article: $194 - 218

Pros: Less oil required, only low to medium heat required, fast heat distribution and even heat retention, easy-clean, holds large volume, ovenproof to 260°C, multiple uses from one piece of kitchen equipment, ease and convenience, from stovetop to oven to table.

The Results

In conclusion, you can’t go wrong with a Scanpan roaster. There is a reason why Australians consistently name the brand their favourite in high-quality cookware. Scanpan is widely purchased for wedding gifts and house warming presents. The quality and durability will mean the pieces will last a lifetime. The high sides and heavy bases and materials create for a seamless cooking experience.

However, the age-old saying “you get what you pay for” is absolutely true. Scanpan’s high performing Stratanium non-stick changes the roasting game for crispness and easy cleanup.

At the top of the line, The Square Roaster literally has all bases covered as an all-in-one, must-have for superb versatility in the kitchen. I use it so much that I decided to even use it for baking a cake.

So if a simple, good quality roaster is all you are after, then I recommend one of the classic Scanpan roasters. If you really hate spending time cleaning up, I recommend a non-stick roaster. If you want versatility and high performance in one piece of kitchen equipment, I highly recommend The Square.
