A Great Source of Inspiration
Let’s face it, the hardest part of gift ideas is usually the very beginning. It’s like starting with a blank sheet of paper and trying to imagine the painting or essay that will go there. That’s when you need inspiration and a plan. Starting your search off with a gift guide with categories is an easy way to get the ball rolling. Only have less than $50 to spend? Just go to the under-$50 category. Simple and inexpensive gifts like an aromatherapy set help remind her of you every time she comes home. Have a bit more cash and a mother who loves wine? A set of stunning professional-quality wine glasses could be perfect. Begin your gift search by narrowing your ideas down and getting some inspiration. Even if your mum is notoriously difficult to buy for (and mine certainly is), there’s plenty to go on here. My mum particularly loves her solar jars, which light up the back porch on summer nights, making it an even better place to enjoy time with her friends. But let’s say you get a better idea of what you want, but you still can’t find just the right thing. Or, perhaps you’re just afraid you’ll get your dear mum something she won’t use. Not to worry, there are solutions for you.You Can Always Get Personal

If you’re able to spend the time, there’s a nearly endless number of fun things you can get for your mum based on whatever she loves (besides you of course). Is she a reality TV – specifically Shark Tank – fanatic? That’s an easy solution.
A personal favorite I’ve used in the past is to recreate an old photo of you. If you’ve got siblings, get them involved. Go around to thrift stores to find clothes that match exactly what you were wearing, go back to the original location or try to recreate it, whatever you need. Then frame the new version next to the original.
If you decide to get her some cookware, break it in by making her a delicious meal. A beautiful new pasta maker or pan is great, but it's even better when it’s combined with a lovingly prepared meal. In all likelihood, you’ve got some serious dinner karma that you owe her anyways.
Can You Start a Mother’s Day Celebration with a Gift Card?
We can all agree that gift cards have a bit of a bad reputation. There are those who say they’re inconsiderate and plenty who think they’re the only way to avoid unwanted gifts. Either way, the debate over gift cards will go on. So how do you know a gift card could be a great gift idea for your mum? Well, is she independent, decisive, no-nonsense and really just knows what she wants? If you checked any of those boxes, then a gift card is probably worth a try. But first, be sure to consider all the small details. What her favorite colour is, what kind of makeup she uses, where she likes to out on vacation, and so on. If you’re worried it won’t be meaningful or personal enough for your dear mum, then remember that’s what a card is for. Most mums I know would probably prefer a heartwarming message from their dear children over a simple gift any day. Why not get her the best of both worlds? The Real Secret to a Mother’s Day Gift: Just Make it About Love

In the end, this is the only real rule of any Mother’s Day celebration. Before you start panicking about how you can possibly show one of the most important people you’ll ever know just how much she means to you, try just saying it. Sometimes, that’s all you really need to do.
