Crunchy Nut Sprinkle Recipe with Fiskars All Steel

David Kahn |

The Perfect All-Rounder

I recognize the Fiskars name but associate the brand with garden tools or scissors, so I was surprised to receive some cookware. What immediately struck me about the All-Steel Plus 16cm Saucepan was the beautiful stainless-steel sheen. I also felt it looked rather small for 1.5 litre capacity. I’ve since found that this little pan is actually the perfect size for so many kitchen jobs – I’ve been using it pretty much every day as it is a versatile all-rounder. I can quickly heat up a little milk for coffee, cook some frozen peas or edamame for our family’s dinner, melt some chocolate, macerate some strawberries or heat up the kids’ dinner. Made in Finland and established in 1649, Fiskars has developed a strong reputation worldwide for producing high quality products. The cookware has absolutely been designed with the cook in mind, and many aspects have been thoughtfully carried out, such as handles that stay completely cool when the pan gets hot, and a liquid volume marker on the inside of the rim. The pans have a lightweight yet thick, 3-layer base which is optimized for efficient and even cooking and are suitable for all hobs. Shop the Fiskars Cookware range here. I find that the beautiful stainless-steel shine just keeps on coming – no sign of dulling. I love the sturdy, all stainless-steel lid that comes with the pan. All in all, these pans are a treat to use on a daily basis and look fabulous in a gourmand’s kitchen.

Crunchy Nuts and Seeds Salad Sprinkle

This almost seems silly to write down a recipe as such, as these crunchy, pan-roasted seeds are too easy to make! Perfect as healthy salad toppers, on soups or as a crunchy snack. This quantity makes about a jam jar quantity of sprinkle.

Ingredients List:

  • 1 Tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1/3 cup pepitas
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/3 cup flaked almonds
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts

Instructions:

Place everything but the nuts into a steel saucepan and bring up to a medium heat on the hob. Shake the pan every minute or so for about 5 minutes, until the seeds are lightly browned. Add the almonds and pine nuts and continue to toast until they are lightly toasted, another 3 minutes. Having a good mason jar is great to store and keep fresh any left over seed sprinkle to use on other dishes. About the Author: Becky Gilhespie is a food writer and former Masterchef semi-finalist.
