HoneyBee Beeswax Wraps

Wondering if there were other ways to use beeswax wraps other than packing food? Reusable wax wraps or beeswax wraps are a great way to reduce waste in your kitchen and if you have started replacing plastic wraps with this eco-friendly option, you are off to a good start. Since wax wraps have become such a significant part of our household, we have found other nifty ways to use wax wraps in (and out) of the kitchen. Surprise, surprise! Here are some brilliant ways you can use them - starting with our favourites.

1. Wrap soap or shampoo bars while travelling

Are you switching to soap and shampoo bars? Because if you are, then you will be thankful that you bought all those wax wraps. Instead of using messy plastic bags, use the beeswax wraps to pack your soap and shampoo bars. It doesn't take much space in your luggage or backpack, and there is zero chance of shampoo spills ruining your clothes. The brilliant thing about beeswax wraps is that it won't deteriorate when you wrap wet and sudsy soap or shampoo bars. The beeswax will keep everything sealed by sticking to the wrapper.

2. Cover the top of mason jars, bottles and carafes

Do you have a mason jar that is missing a lid? If yes, you can use beeswax wraps to create a perfectly tight seal to cover the mouth of the pot. Regardless if you have a mason jar fermenting in the pantry, the beeswax wraps will keep your ingredients contained. Bottles and carafes, on the other hand, don't all come with covers or lids. If you are packing for a picnic with the family, it can be a hassle. Wax wraps are perfect to create a watertight seal so you can save the last bit of wine or juice drinks at home.

3. Wrap the deck of cards

Card boxes tend to tear up over time, mainly when the kids use it a lot to play. Wrapping the deck of cards with beeswax wraps will help keep the cards together, and the great thing is it can be used over and over again.

4. Use it to catch dust from the top of the upper cabinet

First of all, we know that you can't see the top of your cupboard, but you know that it's there collecting the ultimate combination of dust, grease, or anything that floats around in the air. Typically you would use a particular cleaning rag or cloth to clean up the gunk-fest, and we all know how disgusting that can be. But did you know? You don't have to do all that anymore, which means no more heavy cleaning. Simply line the top of your cabinet and let the magnet-like superpowers of your wax sheet attract and catch all that dirt that's floating around. A few times a year, just make sure to swap out the grubby wax sheets with new fresh ones.

5. Cover the top of your fridge

The same tricks that work on your cabinet can be applied to the top of your fridge too. It's also another area in the house that tends to build and collect all that greasy, dusty, and grubby coating. If you are tall or if your fridge is short, you'll be able to see all that dirt. Don't fret. Simply cover the top of your refrigerator with a wax sheet and secure it in place with double-sided tape. It's brilliant because it's unnoticeable and it's an easy way to de-grease the top of your fridge.

6. Layer the fridge drawer.

How frequently do you clean your produce fridge drawers? Regardless of how well you seal your food, the sticky and yucky residue somehow manages to leave its mark in your produce drawer. Here's a trick — forget the scrubbing by layering your fridge drawers with wax sheets. Yes, over time they will end up encrusted, but all you have to do is replace it with a fresh wax sheet.

7. Preserve your wooden cutting board

We all know that cutting raw meat on a wooden cutting board isn't the safest and the healthiest thing to do (for both you and the board). But when you have wax sheet, simply line your cutting board with it before you cut up the poultry. It will not only keep the board looking new, well-maintained and easy to clean, but it will also prevent food-borne illnesses that are usually caused by all the slushy-yucky juices from your meat.

8. Make a handy funnel for dry ingredients in a pinch

Don't tempt fate by attempting to freehand your pour. Create a makeshift pipe by rolling up a piece of wax paper. Specifically for liquids, try three or four layers and pour slowly to make sure your creation doesn't fumble.

9. Let the cheese breathe!

If you buy a delicious cheese, you don't want to ruin it with the lack of nurturing skills, right? Even if you purchased a mid-level cheese, it is still cheese, and you'll want to treat it like the gem it is. Wrapping cheese in a porous material helps to expose your cheese to enough oxygen, which will prevent the cheese from drying out quickly. We recommend using Davis & Waddell Reusable Beeswax Wrap or HoneyBee Wraps Reusable Beeswax.

10. Avoid food from splattering in the microwave

Whether you are heating up or cooking a meal in the microwave oven, there is a chance that the gravy might splatter all over your microwave. If you don't have a splatter guard, simply use your wax paper to cover the top of your plate, bowls or containers to avoid the splatter.
