How to Make the Perfect Cheese Platter

Master the art of assembling the perfect cheese platter

Tip 1: The Base

For an eye-catching, mouth-watering, photogenic cheese platter, the serving platter itself can make all the difference. The natural wood look is always a picturesque vision for the ingredients to be built upon. For example, pictured above is the Provedore cheese platter with a knife by Salt & Pepper. The stunning acacia wood really sets off the serving platter, giving it a natural look. The added bonus of the beautiful large golden knife also makes for the perfect picnic platter.

Tip 2: The Cheese

Always opt for the highest quality of artisan cheeses especially if you only have space for a few as quality speaks more than quantity. Next, don't opt for the same two textures of cheeses. Soft cheeses such as camembert or brie are a good starting point. Next, add either a crumbly, hard, vintage, smoked, or blue variety depending on your platter size. Cut cheeses in half for the appearance of different shapes on the board.

Tip 3: Other Ingredients

The possibilities are endless for the ingredients you can use for the perfect platter! Cheese isn’t the only necessity that’s going to steal the show. Other ingredients you can add include seeds, nuts, cured meats, vegetable crudites, fruit paste, chocolate, seasonal fruits, bread, and crackers.

Tip 4: Fill the Gaps

When building the perfect platter, always fill the gaps with other ingredients like nuts, pretzels, grapes or anything you see fit for your plater. Start with the cheese; then, build around and on top of the cheeses one ingredient at a time to fill in every little gap. By using this tip, your platter will look full. When your platter looks full, it creates the visual of more varieties, making it more fun to pick and choose what you eat next!

Tip 5: The ‘IT’ Factor

People eat with their eyes! An array of colourful and interesting ingredients is what will give your platter the ‘IT’ factor. A statement ingredient such as an interesting seasonal fruit (think dragon fruit, fig, or blackberries) will really elevate the appearance of your platter. Fresh foliage such as seasonal herbs (rosemary or thyme) will give it a lovely earthy vibe. Something sweet and interesting such as homemade honeycomb or boutique chocolate is also a must to create variety, and please the sweet tooth!
