I’ve found these cutting tools from Gefu to be a great way to get kids helping with the cooking in a safer way. You can get them to prep your veggies for dinner without having to worry about knife safety. Kids absolutely love these gadgets! And they love feeling useful. Also, they are more likely to eat more vegetables if they have been involved in the prep.
I particularly like the neatness you can get from the cuts – to me, this is the main selling point of these cool tools. Anyone can pick up a knife, but not everyone can make perfect and even cuts, which look great in cooking and presentation. These are also great for anyone who may be a little nervous about using sharp knives.
The Rapido Slicer makes easy work of getting perfect 4mm julienne strips. Even cutting through tough tomato skin is no problem. And the design of the base cleverly pushes the cut vegetable up through the slats into the container, bringing any sticky messes off of the blades and also off of your countertop. I made some cucumber pickles with the Rapido slicer – I cut them lengthways to make long and thin pickles for a burger. They look just like out of a jar from the supermarket!
The Gefu Flexicut is my go-to for making lunches in the morning. You simply load your vegetable into the Flexicut and choose to split into quarters or eighths. Carrots and cucumbers come out perfectly into sticks this way, and my son loves them for ‘Crunch and Sip’ at school.
I find flatbread pizzas are a great way to get the kids excited about helping out with dinner prep and eating more vegetables. I let them choose which veggies they want as toppings and then I get them to prep and create their own pizza.
