black steel frypan
I bought this for camping to cook over an open fire. Indestructible and functional now has made its way into my kitchen.
Nice enough pan but not perfect
The pan is 1.5 mm thick,. is reasonably light, responsive & easy to handle. The cooking results are what you'd expect from a carbon steel pan. The main reason I gave it 3 stars, rather than 4 or 5, is because of the sharpish edges on the handle. I found that uncomfortable in my hand & was disappointed by this. I almost felt like grabbing an angle grinder & trying to smooth out the edges myself. Overall the pan is solid & if you are willing to accept the handle issue, it's fine. As a comparison, I have 2 De Buyer frypans, a 28 cm Carbone Plus, this pan is 3 mm thick, solid as a rock & much, much heavier than the Pyrolux (almost as heavy as cast iron, it should last forever). My 2nd De Buyer is a 32 cm Force Blue frypan, it's 2 mm thick, lighter than the Carbone Plus, also solid as a rock. These 2 pans are now my favourites & are used everyday. Because these De Buyer pans are thicker than the Pyrolux they heat more evenly & are therefore less prone to hot spots & the key point for me is, the handle's edges on the De Buyers are perfectly smooth & do not hurt my hand at all. They are excellently made. My preference therefore, would be the De Buyer pans, they cost a little more but in my opinion they're worth it. (Bear in mind that the cheaper De Buyer pans, the La Lyonnaise line, are only 1 to 1.5 mm mm thick so there could be hot spot issues. My personal preference is for the Force Blue line & upwards)
Great pan
Great pan, easy to season, works a treat.
Good Pan
Heavy and good to cook with. Seasoned it and no sticking
