Robert Gordon Australia

The founder, Robert Andy Gordon is the son of one of Australia's most famous potters, June Dyson who trained at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in the late 1930. In 1945 after the war, as a single mother of two children, June started the Dyson Studio in Black Rock, Melbourne. A few years later she married Colin Gordon who took on the role of business director, and after being self-taught also took on some of the production side too.

June’s second son Robert ‘Andy’ Gordon showed the most interest in the business and by his early twenties was helping out in the studio and it was evident he had a passion and would soon follow in his mother's footsteps. By the mid 70’s, with his wife Barbara, Robert started out on his own in a tin shed situated in Gemrook, and was known as Rack Track Pottery. Barbara held the role of Creative Director for over 40 years and that role has now been taken over by their daughter Kate.

Towards the end of the 80’s it was time to expand and a factory in Pakenham was purchased. Now known as Robert Gordon Australia, with a new purpose built headquarters, this business has come a long way from the early days of selling pottery at local St Kilda Markets and is one of the last and largest remaining pottery factories in Australia.

A family business that has been running for 3 generations and still family-run today, Robert Gordon has become an Australian icon and now a globally known brand, with independent retailers in USA, Canada, UK and New Zealand. The company still manufactures Australian-made pieces for select collections in their workshop and factory in Victoria, producing magnificent hand-crafted stoneware collections from their team of talented craftsmen.

To keep up with demand Robert Gordon Australia shifted production overseas for multiple collections. Some of the most popular ranges we have come to love have been designed at Pakenham headquarters such as the ever-popular Hug Me Mugs.

Robert Gordon Hug Me Mugs

The iconic Robert Gordon Hug Me Mug is beautifully rounded in shape, designed to be cupped in the hands for a warming experience. These beautiful mugs are continually updated with new colours, high-gloss and matte glazes to match the latest trends and make fantastic gifts. These mugs always pair beautifully with a matching Robert Gordon teapot.
