Lodge Blacklock Premium Line

Lodge released a new premium line - they're lighter, thinner and triple seasoned!

Blacklock, The Original Lodge Foundry

In 1896, Joseph Lodge established a foundry which was used to manufacture soil pipes. Originally he named the foundry Blacklock after his friend and minister Joseph Blacklock. When the foundry was burnt down in 1910, Joseph rebuilt the factory and renamed it Lodge Manufacturing Company. It was in that facility where the very first casting was poured. "We drew from our heritage and are introducing something revolutionary to the marketplace while resurrecting the historic Blacklock Foundry. The combination of lightweight iron with natural triple seasoning makes this tier of cast iron cookware the first of its kind". - Mike Otterman President and CEO of Lodge Cast Iron Watch the Blacklock Story: The new Blacklock line addresses three common issues that home cooks and professional chefs face with the current Lodge cast iron. The three issues revolve around seasoning, weight, and handles that get too hot to hold. Here's how:

A natural non-stick finish with triple seasoning

Back in 2002, Lodge became the first to introduce factory-seasoned cast iron into the market. The cast-iron cookware became more accessible, especially to those who were interested in cast-iron cooking, but lacked the experience with the cookware. It also meant that customers could use their cast iron pans straight out of the box without seasoning first. The Blacklock has three layers of seasoning baked onto every piece and that includes three rounds of inspection to ensure the cookware arrives with perfect seasoning. The outcome is similar to a well-loved, regularly used cast iron pan the first time you use it.

Three core benefits of triple seasoning

Toughness and Resistance: Food cooked in the classic cast iron tend to strip the seasoning of the pan in the first few uses, but with the triple seasoning of iron, the cookware is far more resilient. It can even withstand tricky foods right from the start without compromising its quality and durability. Easy to Use: Lodge Blacklock is now the easiest to use cast iron cookware in the market. The triple seasoning method reduces the effort in maintenance and care upfront allowing users to get the desired cooking results every day. Cleaning & Care: The triple seasoning allows you to clean the cast iron pan easily due to the added protection that it gets from the three-layer seasoning.

Creating a lightweight cast iron cookware

In the development process, Lodge poured their proprietary iron recipe as thin as they could and tested the pan below standard limits to achieve the precise measurements for optimum weight. The good thing is they manage to do it without compromising the quality and durability of the Lodge cast iron. The Blacklock has a 25% reduction in weight compared to the classic Lodge cast iron pans, showing significant improvements in the way you lift, carry, and handle the cookware.

Advanced handle design for added comfort

The new Blacklock pieces have a different handle design than the classic Lodge cast iron pans. The handle has a cool-V cutout in the centre to reduce the amount of iron in a handle, and the reason for this construction is to allow for better air-flow and to help keep the handle cooler longer. Note: Lodge urges customers to note that the handle is still made of a cast iron. Prolonged use on a hot surface or in the oven will eventually cause the handle to heat up. The assist handles and dual-handled pans from the Blacklock line has an elevated construction which allows more space for your hand when you hold it. Each Blacklock piece is spatula-friendly and has sloped walls for spill-free stirring. Like any other Lodge cast iron cookware, Blacklock can be used on all cooktops including induction (except microwave oven).

How to care for your Lodge Blacklock Cast Iron?

Step 1: Handwash with soap

Handwash your grill pan with mild detergent by using a nylon brush or sponge to scrape off the stuck-on bits. We recommend using the White Magic Eco Basics Dish Brush to do this task. Remember! Avoid using the dishwasher and metal scouring pads to wash your raw cast iron as it can strip and harm the seasoning of the grill pan. Step 2: Dry Thoroughly and promptly Ensure that your raw cast iron pan is completely dry before adding oil to avoid rust. Use a lint-free cloth or paper towel to ensure it dries up completely. Step 3: Rub a thin layer of oil Spread a light, thin layer of Seasoning spray or vegetable oil all over pan to keep a good season, ready for use. The Blacklock is now available on our website.
